The future of Stormwater Management

The future of
stormwater management

At Solmax, we want to build infrastructure better.
That’s why we are committed to not just improving the performance and durability of construction materials, but also creating solutions that contribute to environmental responsibility.

This belief led us to develop a revolutionary solution that allows you to not only manage the quantity of stormwater in your project, but also improve the quality of the water returning to the environment.

Runoff carries harmful pollutants

As civil engineers, and public and private project owners, you understand the increasing challenges of stormwater management. Managing surface water runoff is vital for road safety and durability. However, runoff often carries harmful pollutants – like hydrocarbons and PAHs, and other contaminants –that can severely impact the environment if not properly controlled.

Traditional solutions overlook the environment

Traditional stormwater management solutions have primarily focused on two aspects: the swift removal of runoff via surface drainage systems and the separation of oils from water using separators. While these methods serve their immediate purpose, they are far from environmentally friendly.

Surface drainage systems vs. oil separators

Surface drainage systems, though effective in transporting water away from roads, often channel polluted runoff downstream, where it can wreak havoc on ecosystems. Separator maintenance and cleaning frequencies are underestimated and under-budgeted. Once clogged, these systems can inadvertently release their toxic contents back into the watercourse, exacerbating the problem they were designed to solve.

Rising demand for sustainable stormwater solutions

The environmental impact of polluted runoff is a pressing issue. With increased media attention and growing public awareness of the dangers, the demand for innovative and sustainable stormwater management solutions is becoming more urgent for engineers.

Introducing OSMORIA aquatextiles

OSMORIA is a range of advanced aquatextiles specifically engineered for stormwater management applications that utilize infiltration. Unlike conventional solutions, OSMORIA does not simply remove pollutants from runoff – it goes a step further by biodegrading them. This is achieved through a unique combination of advanced materials that stimulate naturally occurring processes.

The core of OSMORIA’s innovation lies in its ability to trap hydrocarbons (PAHs) in infiltrated rainwater and lock them into its filaments. Once trapped, these harmful pollutants are prevented from seeping into the soil, protecting the environment from contamination.
